New Jersey
Not only will the nutritionists and consumers of New Jersey be severely affected, but millions in all 50 states will suffer as New Jersey will set a bad precedent by making practicing any type of nutrition without a license illegal and punishable by jailtime.

Virginia
Delegate Terry Kilgore has introduced the Naturopathic Doctor Licensure Bill for consideration by the House of Delegates of the 2009 Virginia General Assembly. This proposed bill will grant exclusive rights to practice naturopathy to a small group of practitioners. The bill defines “naturopathy” as:

"Practice of naturopathy or naturopathic medicine" means a system of primary health care for the (i) prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human health conditions, injury, and disease; (ii) promotion or restoration of health; and (iii) the support and stimulation of a patient's inherent self-healing process through patient education and the use of natural therapies and therapeutic substances.

Passing our bill is a process. It will first go to the Health, Welfare and Institutions committee on January 14th. They assign it to a sub-committee for review. When it is approved by that committee it goes before the entire Health, Welfare and Institutions committee for their approval. Then the bill gets sent to the entire House of Delegates for approval. On February 10th all bills that have been approved by the House of Delegates are sent over to the Senate where they will go through an approval process. So, our first step is to get it out of the subcommittee and approved by the House of Delegates.

Montana
Montana has introduced SB 287 - the Consumer Health Freedom and Access Act. We are excited as there are many positive things happening with the bill right now - including that 6 of the 11 Senate committee members are either sponsoring or co-sponsoring the bill. The hearing is scheduled for Monday, February 9 at 9am.

If you know people in Montana encourage them to contact the committee and their legislator NOW. More information on that can be found on our website at www.montanahealthfreedom.org and click on the "advocacy" page.

Colorado
The bill seeks to license "naturopathic physicians," who went to schools in Washington, Oregon, Connecticut, or Arizona, and then moved to Colorado. These four schools teach what they call "naturopathic medicine," which involves diagnosing, the use of prescription drugs, and the use of surgery.
